Dare I say it…Spring has finally arrived! And with the change in season comes with a change in our skins, so it is important to switch up your skincare to make sure you are giving your skin what it needs as the sun comes out and the air gets warmer and drier. Here are a few things to do to successfully switch up your skincare for the new season…
Hydration, Hydration, Hydration
Hydration is still key even when the weather warms up, but heavy and thick moisturisers are likely to be too heavy, especially if your skin sweats. Try opting for lighter moisturisers that will hydrate your skin but not be too heavy- gel-based and water-based are the best for this. The Ordinary has a great range of moisturisers that are budget friendly, light and great for all skin types.
Use SPF
We all hear about the SPF police, but there is a reason that you should be wearing it on your face, even if you aren’t being exposed to direct sunlight. SPF prevents your skin from burning, and more complicated issues like melanoma and sun allergies. SPF should not just be in your makeup products, but applied separately and at the end of your skincare routine.
Exfoliation
Warmer seasons are the perfect time to amp up exfoliating. Use a gentle exfoliant to help remove any dry skin that the cold weather may have caused, revealing fresh, hydrated skin underneath. Never over-exfoliate: once a week is usually enough depending on your skin type.
Lighten up Makeup
Wear make-up that is conducive with spending more time outside. Opt for tinted moisturisers or light foundations over heavy ones, as these won’t clog your pores as much when your skin gets warm and sweaty, and promote a natural look, ideal for being outside. Good options include tinted moisturisers, bronzers and BB cream.
Add Antioxidants
Spring seasons are a great time to start incorporating antioxidants into your skincare routine. Vitamin C is a great brightening antioxidant that makes your skin glow, as well as protecting it from environmental stressors that you are exposing it to when you spend time outside and in the sun.
Try a Clay Mask
If you are a fan of using sheet/face masks on your skin, Spring is the perfect time to use a clay mask. These are great for reducing excess oil, which can be produced more in the warmer weather with suncream and sweat on the skin, and help to maintain moisture balance, which is key after a Winter of dry and peeling skin.
By making these simple adjustments to your skincare products and routine, you will prep your skin for the lovely Spring warmth, heading into it with fresh, balanced, moisturised and protected skin.
