When you have a busy life, it can be hard to find the time to prioritise yourself and engage in self care practices. The thing about self care is that they don’t have to take up loads of your time- even five to ten minutes of a practice is enough to benefit your body and mind. Here are five simple self care practices that you can do in ten minutes or under, to boost your mood and improve your relationship with yourself.
Stretch/Do Gentle Movement
Taking a few minutes at the start or end of the day to do some gentle movement is a great way to both begin your day, and also help you wind down. These movements could be pilates, yoga, simple stretches or quick workouts, whatever you feel will boost your mood and make you feel good. YouTube is a great place to find quick movement videos that you can follow and make a part of your daily routine.
Journal
Keeping a journal in a place where you can commit to writing in it every day is a great habit to get into. In the morning or evening try dedicating five minutes to writing in it. This can be about anything: how your day was, mindfulness practices, gratitude lists or even just random thoughts and doodles. Anything that allows you to tap into your thoughts and get them down on paper.
Create a Simple Skincare Routine
We all see the influencers boasting about their twenty step fancy skincare routines that they do every day, but you don’t need to have a fancy skincare routine to have a skincare routine. Find just a handful of products that are good for your skin and commit to using them every day. Even the simplest of skincare routines can not only benefit your skin, but also make you feel good for carving out that time to commit to it.
Water First Thing in the Morning
This is a really quick and easy habit to get into, but one that will have as significant impact on your mood and overall health. Drinking a whole glass of water when you wake up will help with your energy, skin health and mood as you start the day.
Unplug from Screens
Spending just ten minutes doing something other than looking at screens is another simple self care practice you can do daily that won’t take up a lot of time. Screens are the biggest cause of high cortisol and blue light interference wreaks havoc in our brains, especially at night. Try swapping your scroll for reading, especially before bed, to help you wind down and give your brain a rest.
It is important to make time to engage in self care practices, even if you don’t have a lot of time to do so. This blog post has given you some ideas of things you can do to make time for yourself and improve your overall health and wellbeing, without losing too much of your day to day time.
